Linda and Walter

The situation

Linda and Walter have organized their entire photo collection and the memories of a lifetime on their laptop.

The challenge

Both Linda and Walter are very tidy and have spent much time to organize their files in traditional directories. But both prefer a different organization scheme, so they would like to install liquidFOLDERS and use its dynamic (i.e. "liquid") folder structure to find files the way that feels natural to each of them.

Walter points out that by moving their files into a liquidFOLDERS store, they lose the directory organization. Linda and Walter certainly don’t want to retag and reorganize all their photos by hand.

On the right side you can see a part of their directory tree. Note how they’ve layed out the different tree levels: recording year, tags and location name.

Our recipe for success

Linda and Walter are happy that liquidFOLDERS comes with the “Migration Wizard“ that can import their files into a store. The application displays a directory and all subfolders as a large tree. Note that each folder can be excluded, like all "Outtakes" folders of their vacations.

But that’s not all: see how all folders of the same tree level are displayed in the same column? You can assign a property to all folder names in the same column. When starting the migration process, the respective properties of all files get filled in with the names of their parent folders, so this information remains available.
